Inspired by labyrinth and geometric architectures, Yuanzheng Yuta Yang's Line Rings collection is a unique exploration of the interaction between wearer and jewelry. This collection, awarded Silver in A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2021, showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces a new perspective on the concept of wearable art.
The Line Rings collection is a set of nine rings, each designed to highlight the dynamic relationship between the wearer and the jewelry piece. The moveable sphere inside each ring provides feedback to the wearer through sounds, vibration, and rotation, creating an interactive experience that goes beyond the traditional static nature of jewelry.
Yuanzheng Yuta Yang's inspiration for this collection was drawn from the complex structures of labyrinths and geometric architecture. The designer utilized 3D CAD techniques to bring precision and higher complexity in creating perfect line construction in small scale rings. The result is a collection that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also engaging and interactive.
Each ring in the collection measures approximately 4*4*4 cm and is made using 3D Printing, Lost Wax Casting, Brass, and Silver Plating. The moveable sphere inside the ring slides in various directions along the track, while diverse multi-segment structures bring greater possibilities to the trajectory of the ball.
The creation of the Line Rings collection was not without its challenges. Precise measuring was crucial in ensuring the sphere flowed constantly in the ring. After experimenting with different 3D printed materials, the designer limited the thickness of the wire to 1.2mm, with a 6mm gap in between the rail. Calculating the measurement in a 3D form posed a significant challenge, but the result is a collection that is as technically impressive as it is visually stunning.
The Line Rings collection is a testament to Yuanzheng Yuta Yang's innovative approach to jewelry design. By incorporating elements of movement and interaction, the designer has created a collection that is not just a series of beautiful objects, but a set of wearable experiences.
